Chock Full of Photographic Inspiration

Chock Full of Photographic Inspiration

Wayfaring Wanderer has posted another “Share the Love” give-away. While I don’t typically enter contests that often, she has had some topics that have piqued my interest, and Project Inspiration is another which challenged me to participate. Since I am just a beginner, I find photographic incentives everywhere. I love looking at the photos of others, whether they be on flickr, photostock wesbites, photography forums, newspapers & magazines and of course the many blogs I visit. She mentions how the weather has been draining her of creativity and since I have felt this same lack of excitement on my learning journey, here is my take on this subject.

Healthier Cooking

Healthier Cooking

Ever since listening to this podcast more than three years ago, I have wanted to throw our old non-stick pans to the curb1 in exchange for a quality alternative which would not continually flake toxic shavings into our food. Since using at least two or three different kinds of non-stick cookware since college, I wanted my next investment to be the last cookware purchase I would make for a long time.

Eco-Friendly Entry

Eco-Friendly Entry

I have not yet had to pleasure of meeting Wayfaring Wanderer but since we live in the same town, a photowalk is planned. I hope we will finally get to meet in the very near future, maybe for a photo-snow-walk or a hike at the Hebron Rock Colony. When I read about her “Share the Love” green giveaway, I had to participate for a chance to win one of her lovely prizes and perhaps the book “Living Green”, a lovely picture frame or a re-usable bag may also be in my future. I could think of plenty of eco-friendly things I do currently to brag about but it was alot harder to think of ways to improve upon the many eco-friendly actions I take on a daily basis.

5 things I do right now that are eco-friendly:

  1. Use re-usable containers for take-out food and re-usable bags for shopping; support restaurants which use recyclable take-out containers
  2. Make my own homemade household cleaners
  3. Compost throw-away kitchen waste
  4. Recycle glass, plastic, metal, batteries, CFL light-bulbs, pasteboard, cardboard, newspaper
  5. Make a majority of healthy, nutritious meals at home

5 things I don’t do but can easily start doing:

  1. I hang out clothes on a clothelines mainly during the summer but could do this more often in the fall and spring
  2. Be more consistent with recycling & composting; sometimes a few things that could easily be recycled or composted end up in my trash because of pure laziness
  3. Finish ridding kitchen of plastic food storage containers by finding inert alternatives
  4. Save more food for leftover meals and make a plan to use these so they do not go to waste
  5. Drive less; walk more

Nomination for prize: Blue Bird Hill

Good luck to all the entrants and much luck to everyone in achieving their eco-friendly aspirations.

I loves me some little blue creatures!

I loves me some little blue creatures!

Way down yonder in the land of muggy and hot, there is a sum of plastic boxes which hold my Smurf collection. Since I was just a wee little girl, I have been collecting all things smurf; tea sets, drinking glasses, figurines, stuffed dolls, notebooks, pillows, fabric, bed-sheets, and whatever I could find. My latest find was plucked from the shelves of the local Goodwill.

Update: Dishwasher Soap

Update: Dishwasher Soap

My last post detailing a dishwasher soap recipe, I found, has changed slightly during my experimentation with environmentally-friendly choices so I thought it warranted an update post. The recipe I was using worked for a time but if I wasn’t willing to use essential oils and lemon juice every time I didn’t get the results I wanted. I also had a difficult time keeping the vinegar and the castile soap mixed together as it would separate in between uses1. During this time I even tried a Grapefruit Seed Extract Powder which I really liked but it was still lacking somewhat2.

Congratulations!

November 7th, 2008
Congratulations!

I couldn’t resist letting out a little creative energy by making this collage from several campaign flyers that had not yet made their way into the paper shredder. My emotions got the better of me several times while watching all the coverage of this historic event many thought impossible just a few short months ago and I believe this country is headed to a much better place. Congratulations to Barack Obama for winning the chance to repair the damage. He has a lot of work to do and we still have a duty to keep him on track. Hopefully we can all unite, stay focused on the tasks at hand and prove the doubtful nay-sayers wrong. I am filled with excitement to see the re-invention of family values by the realistic example portrayed through Michelle Obama as she becomes mom-in-chief. Also, I finally found something to be thankful for regarding the current administration, the GOP and the republican campaign ticket for the 2008 presidency. Since they all screwed up so much both here and abroad, Barack Obama now has the chance he deserves to guide our country to a better future. I welcome this change as things definitely are going to be different.

Last chance to vote!

Last chance to vote!

I voted early. Not only is it convenient, it is very satisfying to have it done and over with since I had made up my mind a long time ago.
